What matters in Walking Basic
Walking Basic organizes salsa timing as a sequence of actual walking steps through space rather than keeping the action fixed in one place.
Each regular walking step clearly accepts body weight. This keeps the pathway stable and readable.
The chosen pathway is deliberately organized. Direction changes come from steps and reorientation rather than from tipping the upper body sideways.
Steps remain appropriate to tempo and available space. Excessive step length makes timing, balance, and later directional changes harder.
The selected salsa timing remains intact while traveling. Moving through space is not a reason to insert additional steps between the intended weight changes.
04 · Body knowledge
Body organization in Walking Basic
In a Walking Basic, every regular walking step accepts body weight and transports the body center onward.
The feet use a practical walking track without unnecessarily crossing on a tight line or spreading excessively wide.
Walking changes the spatial pathway, not the underlying rhythmic organization of the weight transfers.
05 · For beginners
Build Walking Basic clearly first
Walk slowly and make sure every step fully supports you. Then transfer the same clarity into salsa timing.
Begin with a simple forward or diagonal direction before adding curves or stronger direction changes.
After each step, can the previous foot move freely onward without still being needed for support?
06 · Teaching and feedback
What to observe in a controlled Walking Basic
Every step frees the previous foot for the next part of the walking pathway.
Direction comes from the sequence of steps rather than lateral balance corrections.
Step length can adapt to available space without losing the salsa pulse.

Alternating backward break with a slight lateral opening, commonly used as a relaxed basic variation in social salsa.
Salsa rhythm marked almost in place to train timing, foot pressure, and body movement without substantial travel.
Salsa basic rhythm executed with lateral weight changes, developing width, hip response, and side-to-side spatial awareness.
A backward weight transfer followed by a forward reversal, keeping the body center controlled rather than drifting excessively away from the base.
Foundational Cuban Casino organization using elastic weight changes, natural rotation, and circular spatial orientation rather than a strict linear slot.
A basic organized around counter-time emphasis, placing directional changes so the movement responds more strongly to the offbeat structure.
A forward weight transfer followed by a clear reversal back toward the base position; the break is the functional change-of-direction point.
A deliberate no-step count while body rhythm, breath, and musical tension continue.
An added or anticipated weight transfer between primary counts, increasing rhythmic density within the regular salsa pulse.
